Kingdom Hearts II is an action role-playing video game developed and released by Square Enix for the PS2 video game system. Like the previous game, it incorporates elements from the Final Fantasy series and also includes familiar characters and settings borrowed from Disney movies. The game was originally planned as a follow-up to Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, but was canceled when Disney decided not to renew the license for a movie adaptation. A sequel to this game has been produced by Square Enix, which was released in Japan in 2020, in both a standard and a limited edition.
King Mickey is the central key character in this game. As he is usually depicted as a mouse, his design is very distinctive, with long ears and a tail, as well as a crown on the top of his head. His attire changes according to the time period that he visits. On some occasions, Mickey can be seen dressed in his usual white uniform, while on others, he wears a black and white suit. Although the game takes place after the first Final Fantasy game, there is still much that is familiar to the players. For example, the basic battle scenario involves Mickey and his friends fighting enemies using powerful magic spells. It is up to the player's choices, whether to use a character with good combat skills or one with the magical powers of a sorcerer.
Like all the games that Square Enix develops, this is an adventure game, where the player has to solve problems and fight against enemies in order to complete quests. Although Kingdom Hearts II does not have any special graphics, it does have excellent sound effects. The storyline is based on the classic fairy tale of Snow White, who was transformed into a princess when she refused to marry a prince.
